The hike to the top of Tunnel Mountain, which starts in Banff, is short
(about 2.3 kilometers, 1.4 miles) and moderately steep, gaining 305 metres (1000 feet)
in elevation. However, the views from the top justify the effort. This view to the
west overlooking Banff and the Vermillion Lakes area is magnificent.
The view to the northeast from the top of Tunnel Mountain is equally inspiring. The
Banff Springs golf course nestles at the foot of Mount Rundle, while the Bow River
winds its way down the valley towards a gap in the mountains and eventually, through
Calgary.
