Para-Gliding at Cochrane

Cochrane, located about 20 minutes west of Calgary, is the perfect location for hang gliding and para-gliding. The prevailing west winds are heated as they cross the prairie, then they are force upwards by these hills, creating powerful thermals that produce the long flights so desired by flyers.

The Muller family has been operating a flight centre and school on the hill above Cochrane for almost 30 years. They offer lessons for all levels of skill and experience, and have lines of equipment for sale (website: www.muller-hang-paraglide.com).

There was no flying due to uncooperative wind conditions on the day we were there. Nevertheless, our photos captured some of the breathtaking views of Cochrane and the mountains to the west, and some of the lessons in progress (also breathtaking but for different reasons!). .Click this link for a truly spectacular view from this location (file size is 114K so it will take a little longer to download, but the wait will be worth it!!)
