Millenium Park

Millenium Park, Calgary's premier Year 2000 project, opened on September 30, 2000. Designed primarily to
serve the needs of skateboarders, the facility offers ramps, railings, ledges, curbs, pits and other
structures that will challenge all classes of riders -- beginner to expert. In addition, the park
also features an all-weather athletic court, green spaces that can accommodate 12,000 people for
celebrations and special events, fountains and a children's water play area. Still under construction are
the Millenium Landmark Building and laser tower, the latter to feature a series of lasers rising to
a height of over 1200 feet. They are due to be finished by the end of the year. Skies were overcast when we visited the facility the day before it opened -- one of Calgary's famous chinooks was blowing in (note the arch in the views to the west). We will visit again in the near future and catch some of the action. |
