Alberta Children's Hospital Site - West Campus

This project has pitted conservationists agains developers, health boards and many for whom the new hospital will provide great benefits. The issue isn't whether it's needed, rather it's this location.

This photo was taken across Shaganappi Trail from Mackay Road NW and shows the tremendous amount of fill that has been dumped on the site this summer. In the process, grasslands, meadows, shrubs and trees have been buried, taking with it the wildlife habitat of foxes, squirrels, deer, and many other species that have been observed here. We're not sure what it's for either - the actual hospital site is south of this location; that is, if it hasn't been changed yet again. Stay tuned.
