Calgary Downtown Tour Looking East at 7 Avenue and 2 Street SW

The old Bay Parkade on the left was one of the first parking structures that was built in the downtown area, dating back to the late 1950's. Advertising from the period heralded the advantage of being able to park here, then "take the Skywalk across 7th Avenue directly into the store". The highlights of any trip downtown (at least to the young mind of one of us), was the walk across this early prototype of the Plus-15 system, and especially the trip down the exit ramp (seen in the photo) when leaving. Being exposed to Calgary's variable winter, the ramp was often quite slippery and no doubt gave that young fellow's parents a different opinion of the event.
