Calgary Downtown Tour Looking East at 9 Avenue and 2 Street SW

We are standing outside of Gulf Canada Square, the location of Gulf Canada's headquarters (again - but that's another story). The head office of the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) is also located here, having moved to Calgary from Montreal in the late 1990's. To celebrate their establishment in Calgary, CP placed this steam locomotive -- CPR No. 29 -- outside the main entrance.

We might rightly label this photo the "CPR Viewpoint", for two other CPR major assets are present - PanCanadian Plaza on the left (home of PanCanadian Petroleum, a CP subsidiary), and the Palliser Hotel on the right, in front of the Calgary Tower. The Palliser is a member of the CP Hotel chain, with other locations across Canada. Turn left here to head towards TD Square and Eaton's Centre, with their excellent shopping malls.
