Calgary Downtown Tour Looking East at 9 Avenue and 8 Street SW

We are standing on the bridge over 8th Street to take this photo. The short building in the left foreground used to be known as the Allied Arts Centre, a setting for small scale theatre productions of all types. For a number of years now, it has housed other commercial concerns.

We are continuing our march towards the Calgary Tower, seen in the distance. This view, probably more than any other in our tour along 9th Avenue, emphasizes the amount of parking space available for downtown commuters. And yet we wonder how long this prime real estate can withstand the development pressures that are growing daily.
