This intersection is dominated by the Petro-Canada Centre in the right foreground. Be sure to visit the atrium on the north side of the building. There, suspended from the ceiling is a bush plane that saw service in Canada's North. Also situated in the atrium is a statue entitled Share the Flame commemorating Petro-Canada's sponsorship of the cross-Canada Olympic Flame relay that occurred in 1988. The short building nestled in behind Petro-Canada Centre is known as the Oddfellows Temple, built in 1912. It is now home for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. The construction fence in the left foreground marks the site of yet another new construction project to replace the video store that once occupied the location with a new office building. And across the street on the right (out of view, click Turn Right) stands the James Short School Cupola, all that remains of the James Short School that once occupied the site immediately to the west. |
