Calgary Downtown Tour Looking South at 5 Avenue and 5 Street SW

The two buildings prominent in this view share a common historical footnote -- both were at one time the location of Texaco Canada, a major player in the local oil industry for years before it was swallowed up by Imperial Oil in the late 1980's. The building on the right is known as the Canadian Hunter Building (formerly Fifth and Fifth), and was built in 1978. The other building is the Petex building, and it has housed departments for several oil companies over the years besides Texaco, including Husky Oil.

Continue straight ahead and in one block you will find Calgary's court houses. Or continue beyond to exit the downtown - 5th Street is a one-way street southbound and a main commuter route out of the downtown area.
