Calgary Downtown Tour Looking West at 5 Avenue and 8 Street SW

This is one of those tough intersections that we have to photograph again in the summer, when there is more sunlight. Shadows are a feature of any downtown with high-rise towers, and we certainly did not want to hide the fact that Calgary has them too. But our attempts to pull details out of the shade in post-editing, have still left this picture flat.

There are things to see here. For example, the Atrium I and II buildings are to our left, with a restaurant at street level. On our right there is a delivery company, and other businesses in the store fronts down 5th Ave behind us. We are about to cross 8th St, which runs one-way north to 4th Ave, carrying transit vehicles on their way to Kensington and beyond. Try turning right to get to a quaint church and the Peace Park.
