Banker's Hall
Location: 9 Ave & 2 St SW

Banker's Hall was originally conceived in the early 1980's as a "twin tower" development. The first phase (silver tower on the right) was completed on schedule and housed the main offices of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Calgary.

The second tower didn't get off the drawing board as originally planned. Slumping oil prices in the mid-1980's and the subsequent "rationalization process" (translation -- massive layoffs) in the oil industry resulted in a glut of office space. Several new tower projects were shelved indefinitely. Happily, the plans were dusted off in 1998, and the west tower was completed in 2000.
