First Canadian Centre

| When originally conceived in the late 1970's, First Canadian Centre was going to consist of 2 towers. The first tower (shown here, 42 storeys) was completed in 1981; the second, which was going to be 64 storeys, was never started due to a downturn in the petroleum industry which occurred at that time. In late 2000, however, there is speculation that another Calgary office tower project (or more) might be started to meet rising space demands, so perhaps the second tower will yet be constructed. Meanwhile, a pleasant park sits on the site, a peaceful sunny spot in the heart of downtown. |
