The Bow River Valley in Calgary is effectively a huge park, which stretches right though the city. There is a bicycle and walking pathway system along most of the river's length in Calgary. If you are not familiar with the pathways, you can obtain a map from one of the major bicycle shops or sports stores, and plan your route before starting. The round trip can take several hours on a bicycle, and can be quite a challenge to all but the fittest cyclists. Fortunately there are many crossings and loops of different distances to suit everyone.
