| Olympic Way (4th St SE) This
is the view north as you leave the Stampede
grounds at 14th Ave. Behind us to our right are
the well-maintained gardens and offices of the
Stampede Board. You'll find many references
around the city to Calgary's role as host to the
1988 Winter Olympic Games. This photograph in
late December reminds us of the balmy weather
that preceded the Olympics. I remember that ABC
television had to truck snow for its signature
scene at Canada Olympic Park during the practice
Luge races. But although Calgary weather is
generally weird, it has a remarkable record for
coming through in time for major events. True to
form, it snowed just before the Olympics started.
