| Haultain School at 225 - 13th Ave SW This
is the oldest remaining school building in
Calgary, dating back to 1894. The small cottage
is built of hand-hewn sandstone blocks, with
Neo-Classical detailing. Originally known as the
South Ward School, it was the third school to be
built in the city. We are on 2nd Street looking
east.
Harry Palmer sent us this e-mail about the
school: "I attended Haultain
School (Grade 9) in the 1943-44 school year. That
building was two stories, similar to existing
King Edward and King George schools. Haultain
school was demolished (fire?) and only the
cottage remains."
Thanks Harry. There are links to Harry's web
