| Memorial Park Library Built
in 1911, this was Calgary's central Library until
1963. It was declared a Provincial Historic Site
in 1976 and restored in 1977 to reopen as a
branch library and art gallery. It was designed
by the Boston firm of McLean and Wright, and
constructed with local sandstone by Scottish
masons. Inside is a marble staircase, mahogany
trim and moulded plaster ceilings.
This view is facing northeast, and is
remarkably sharp considering that the
photographer had just fallen off his bicycle on
ice left by freezing rain, and was seeing two of
everything. We do not recommend this as a
photographic technique. (back)
