These pictures of scenes from the downtown Chinese Festival were taken in September 2001 in Chinatown, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Calgary has a large, vibrant Chinatown in the heart of downtown. Following a highly successful festival to celebrate the reopening of the Centre St. Bridge in 2000, the organizers have made it an annual event. There are several indoor markets throughout Chinatown, but it is very easy to miss the entrances amid all the signs. Chinese shops and facilities can also be found along Centre St through to 16th Ave. north, and at other locations throughout Calgary.
