These pictures of the Highland Games were taken on 31st August 2002 at Shouldice Athletic Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Attractions included highland dancing, pipe and drum bands, sheep dog demonstrations, clan tents, celtic goods vendors, kids games, a soccer tournament and "Heavy Games" featuring the caber toss, hammer toss, tug of war and weight throwing for distance and height.
The Calgary United Scottish Games Association organized this annual event, continuing a tradition which began in 1913. About 150 volunteers helped with the games and attendees included 16 pipe bands and 300 highland dancers. Click here to see a vista view of the highland dancing.
