This gallery shows night time pictures of the downtown skyline, buildings and other scenes in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Unlike many major cities, Calgary has relatively few concentrations of neon displays. Yet its subtler lighting gives us better access to the details on its older buildings. The lower light levels also require longer exposure times, so people moving in the frame cannot be seen, except sometimes as ghostly blurs. This gives the street scenes the quiet aura of pre-dawn, even though the views were mostly taken during early evening.

For the technically oriented, the pictures had exposures of 1 to 10 seconds at F7 through F15. White balance was set for incandescent light, and the ISO setting was between 200 and 400. All shots were tripod-mounted and triggered by a timer to reduce vibration.
