Photographs of Remembrance Day

These pictures show scenes from the 2001 Remembrance Day ceremony at the Museum of the Regiments in southwest Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, record crowds attended a moving remembrance service at several locations in Calgary. One could hardly fail to notice the symbolism of the children playing carefree on the tanks and other instruments of war, as the adults assembled to pay tribute to the veterans who gave so much to protect that freedom. The ceremony also reminded us of the gallant people who still risk their lives to keep us safe. A visit to the military museum in Calgary is highly recommended at any time of the year. The exhibits are well laid out and are surprisingly extensive. More importantly, we need to remind ourselves regularly that peace is not to be taken for granted.
