We're supposed to be in the Great White North, so it was odd to have a Santa Claus Parade in bright November sunshine, without a trace of snow. But the excellent weather brought out the crowds, who lined 9th Avenue downtown for the one-hour procession of floats, bands, vintage cars and other visual delights. It's obvious that a lot of people worked hard to make the parade a success, and they are to be congratulated.
The parade assembled on 8th Avenue by the Mewata Armory, then set off at noon, heading east on 9th Avenue. Mayor Dave Bronconnier was in a vintage car early in the parade, and he delighted the crowd as he leapt out to help push the old automobile when it stalled at 4th Street. His good humor soon had members of the crowd joining in to help.
