Calgary Stampede and Rodeo Photographs
Barrel Racing

These pictures of the Barrel Racing event at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo were taken in July 2002 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This is one of several galleries of photographs taken at the Stampede. Click here for gallery index.

Click the "Menu" button on the left to select Stampede events and photograph quality.  The menu also has a "gallery" option which lets you see the thumbnails from the Home Page.

The only women's event in the Stampede is Barrel Racing, in which contestants take turns to ride completely round three barrels in a cloverleaf pattern, before crossing the finish line. Barrels may be touched, but if knocked over there is a five second penalty added to the overall time. The barrels are laid out in a triangle, which requires the rider to lean sharply into the turns.
