This is an evening event with the infield and finish straight in shadow, making it a tricky race to photograph. Starting at 8:00pm there are nine heats of four wagons and sixteen outriders. Each heat starts in the infield as the wagons circle barrels before heading anticlockwise around the track. They complete one lap, finishing in front of the grandstand, (which is packed with about 17,000 people every night). The outriders can make or break the race, since they incur penalties for not finishing close to their wagon.
