The spectacular Calgary Stampede Parade has over 150 entries and marks the official beginning of the ten days of Stampede. With floats and bands assembled near Fort Calgary, the Parade starts at 9:00 am on Friday and takes two hours to pass any point on the route. From Mcleod Trail SE downtown it goes west along 6th Avenue, turns south at 10th Street and then returns east along 9th Avenue to Fort Calgary. Entries include antique vehicles, horses of all varieties, floats, wagons, natives in traditional dress, dignitaries, marching bands along with representatives from many organizations.

As you might expect, it is a very popular event and crowds line the whole route, beginning two or more hours before the start. A Parade Prelude keeps people amused prior to the main Parade with a variety of entertainment. Traffic in the area is blocked at 7:30 am but you can access the area with the C-Train along 7th Avenue.
